Charles had told Josie countless times to always close the gate after feeding the chickens. She usually remembered — but today her head was in the clouds, fantasising about a long, indulgent soak in a hot bath with a good book. In her distraction, she left the gate swinging wide open.
The result was pure chaos. Chickens ran riot across the farmyard, clucking frantically and causing the sheep, goats, and even the old donkey to join in the noisy uproar. The once-orderly farm had turned into absolute mayhem.
Just as Josie stood there in horror, Charles rode back into the yard, still holding his long, supple riding crop. One stern glance at the open gate and the escaping birds told him everything he needed to know.
That evening, poor Josie found herself bent over the kitchen table with her skirt raised and knickers lowered. Charles delivered a sharp, stinging lesson with his riding crop across her bottom. Each crisp stroke left a bright red line and made her yelp and squirm. By the time he was finished, her plump cheeks were hot, throbbing, and covered in vivid welts.
She certainly wouldn’t forget to close the gate again.
